I have shoulder pain

Shoulder problems are very commonly seen in clinic – and can come with or without neck pain, however typically there will always be some sort of neck problem.

We have to check the alignment, check with nerve signals going to all the shoulder muscles (really important as the shoulders are only attached through bones to the rest of the body at the collar bone so it is mainly the muscles that do all the work!) and check for strength.

The aim is about restoring balance to all the above and making functional changes.

What is 'supportive care'?

At this phase of treatment you are mostly out of pain however the muscles and ligaments haven’t completely strengthened up, you may still have some bad postural or movement habits, or the joints just haven’t quite got the idea yet!

You are given home exercises to correct these however you will need supportive treatment to maintain the corrections on a ‘phased out’ basis until it completely resolves and heals. We normally see people at intervals of 1-2 weeks, then 3-4 weeks, then 6 or 8 weeks until you reach a maintenance level.

My knee hurts, can you treat it?

Yes. Most people come in with lower back pain as their main complaint, and when we check their knees they say ‘I didn’t know you treated knees as well mines been hurting for ages!’.

The knee pain may have started a while ago, and was actually the first sign that there was a back problem – but no back pain was there so they didn’t come in. When it gets worse the back problem shows itself and then they realise it’s time to see a Chiropractor.

If your back is causing your knee problem, we can fix it – and if it is just your knee, well we can treat that on its own too.

What is 'maintenance care'?

Maintenance care is actually what makes up 80% of patient visits in our diary – if your problem arose without any major injury (which happens most often) it is likely that it came on through repeated stresses and strains over time.

Once you get better after the first few weeks of treatment then you’ll probably benefit from periodic check ups or ‘MOT’s’ every 2-4 months to keep your body running smoothly – we call this maintenance care.

My shoulders are rounding forwards

You have a postural syndrome called ‘upper cross posture’ – this is where your chest and upper traps get tight, and at the same time you have weakness in the deep neck flexors and rhomboids.

If you stretch and strengthen these imbalances it will really help. We combine these stretches and exercises with treatment which is even more effective as it solves the root cause of where and why these imbalances occurred in the first place.

Is Chiropractic going to fix my problem?

There are symptoms that will respond to a specific Chiropractic correction, and others that will respond to your Chiropractors advice.

Is it the advice that gets you better, the treatment, or both?

At Duffield Chiropractic Clinic we treat everyone as an individual, so we pick and choose what’s best for you. There are common conditions that Chiropractors treat though, linked below.

Do I need to see my GP first?

No, Duffield Chiropractic Clinic accepts patients on a private basis and as such you can book in for an appointment and be seen quickly (usually within 2-3 days) and treatment can also be started on the day where appropriate.

If your Chiropractor feels your GP needs to be made aware of your problem, or if any further tests such as imaging or blood tests are required, then we will contact your GP with your permission to suggest this.
